Lyrics

FREEDOM SOUND
KERRY PATRICK CLARK

The ocean is the only life he knew
Though times were falling hard on Freedom Sound
Daddy just kept sailing days without a catch and sometimes more
I remember back in 1963
The first time that my father took me out
He taught me of the water and the language of the bay man's every shout

I heard one voice singing freedom's song
One voice trying to hold on in Freedom Sound

CHORUS
He said this is my world this is my home
There is faith in the word and trust in the soul
There are dreams for the young and hope for the old
Here in Freedom Sound

He would tell me how I'd follow in his shoes
Though I didn't want the kind of life he had
I couldn't bear to tell him I knew the words would more than make him mad
As I walked him down the dock in '69
I finally said this time would be my last
I watched the water take us but the water never brought my daddy back

I was one voice singing freedom's song
One voice trying to hold on in Freedom Sound

CHORUS
I said this is your world this is your home
Have some faith in your son I've got dreams of my own
Daddy one of these days I may follow that road
That leads from Freedom Sound

BRIDGE
There are times I hear his whistle blow
Times of pride times of tears
I think of times we will never know
Seems like days though it's been years

The ocean is the only life I know
Though times have fallen hard on freedom's shore
I just keep on sailing I haven't found what I've been sailing for
